UPDATE: Government 2.0 Camp has sold out. We've begun seeing a lot of contributions through the sponsorship ticket, and in order to make sure we don't get too crowded, we upped the minimum to $100  $250 from $50. Full financial account is on the wiki as this is a fully transparent - participant powered un-conference.

What is Government 2.0 Camp?

Government 2.0 Camp is the unconference about using social technologies (aka web 2.0/social media tools) to create a more effective, efficient and collaborative U.S. government on all levels (local, state and federal).

Government 2.0 Camp will bring together the leading thinkers from government, academia and industry to share Government 2.0 initiatives that are already in process and collaborate about Government 2.0 ideas that are currently just visions.

The Government 2.0 Camp Wiki is here

When

Friday, March 27 (8am to 5pm + 6pm happy hour @ Champions) – Saturday, March 28, 2009 (8am-6pm)

Where

Duke Ellington School of the Arts 3500 R St NW, Washington, DC

Attending

Government 2.0 Camp is free to attendees. The cost of the event will be covered by our sponsors. The Government Attendee ticket is currently open for those who are currently government employees. The General Attendee ticket will be opened sometime in the future to those who are not government employees - we want to ensure a healthy mix of participants and have staggered the ticket distribution for that reason.

Community & Communications

Government 2.0 Camp's hashtag is #GOV20CAMP; please tag your posts, tweets, pics, vids etc. with that tag.

Government 2.0 Club is a new un-entity (not a 501c3, not a private company, just a way to consistently bring people together on this topic) which will provide a digital architecture to capture and display presentations and learnings from #GOV20CAMP and other meetups we host. This will take the form of both a wiki and blog in the on set.

Government 2.0 Club will use a group on GovLoops's Ning social network for the time being for social networking facilitation.

Please note that EPA and the Federal Web Managers Council do not endorse the services or products of firms participating in the unconference.

News & Updates

Government 2.0 Campers:

Peter, Mark, Jeffrey and I have received dozens of enthusiastic e-mails, tweets and calls about Government 2.0 Camp over the past few weeks.  I am thrilled that so many people want to attend, sponsor and help--participate.  The repeated question: "HOW can I help?"

Think of an unconference a little bit like an old-fashioned Poconos talent show (a la the movie Dirty Dancing): participants step up, share what they do best and collaborate with others to make it the best event that it can be.

In that spirit, here are 6 specific ways you can get involved in Government 2.0 Camp:
  1. Present: catalyze discussion at Government 2.0 Camp by preparing and presenting your insight and expertise about a specific topic
  2. Coordinate a session: take on the responsibility of pulling together experts on a subset of Government 2.0 to present, participate on a panel, etc.
  3. Sponsor: either contribute a dollar amount (minimum sponsorship is $50) or--even better--sponsor a component of the unconference, e.g. one of the meals, a coffee/snack break, an evening reception, t-shirts for the event, event supplies
  4. Dream up an in-kind contribution: if you're a photographer, offer to chronicle the event on Flickr; if you're a blogger, commit to live-blog the sessions that you attend, if you're a SecondLife developer, take charge of bringing Gov2.0 Camp "in world"
  5. Help things to run smoothly "day of": volunteer to check participants in, help set up food or A/V equipment, clean up after the event
  6. Spread the word: Government 2.0 Camp's success is dependent upon a passionate and active group of participants. Drum up participation from your unique professional network and encourage them to contribute in one or more of the above ways.
No matter how YOU decide to participate, whet our appetite by posting it up on the Government 2.0 wiki.  This will make attending the event more compelling for potential participants.

If you don't know what a wiki is or have never used one before, don't be intimidated!  Just watch this 4-minute Common Craft video to learn all that you need to know.
